  • MADOR: National Initiatives of the Joint Council of Mechinot

Motivated by the value of commitment to Israel’s senior citizens, the Joint Council and the Matanel Foundation came together to create a whole-year project that deepens the intergenerational connection between students and senior citizens in communities near their mechinot.

In the Golden Ties project, each student receives a weekly volunteer assignment to visit the home of a certain senior citizen. The goal is for participants to form a deep and close social connection and participate together in recreational, social, and cultural activities at home and in technological space. Through ongoing interactions, students assist and help alleviate loneliness among senior citizens.
