Survival Skills
- MADOR: National Initiatives of the Joint Council of Mechinot
For the past nine years, outdoor skills training at the mechinot has been collaboratively led by KKL, the Joint Council, and Green Horizons, a KKL association.
Program goals:
- Strengthen students’ connection to the land and help them deepen their knowledge and acquaintance with the land in a process that is up close and personal.
- Bolster students’ independence, coping abilities, resilience, and leadership abilities through experience in the field.
- Improve outdoor, survival, and hiking skills in preparation for military service and life.
- Strengthen students’ connection to nature and the environment.
The project is executed in stages to ensure that safety is maintained when participants finally head out for an educational unit in the field. First, mechina staff receive outdoors training focused on how to lead activities and manage risks in the field. Then, students undergo orienteering units as a prerequisite for the last stage. Finally, with the students in possession of skills acquired through orienteering, the mechinot head out for field units that cultivate participants’ bond with the outdoors and nature through more advanced orienteering and hiking skills education.
