Lt. Y. received his wings last week at Hatzerim Airbase, becoming the first Ethiopian Israeli to complete the IDF’s prestigious flight training course. He grew up in Petach Tikva, where he was a member of the Bnei Akiva youth movement. Before his military service, he attended Mechinat Bnei David in Eli, where he spent two-and-a-half years studying and getting ready. He graduated from Course 177 to qualify as a combat navigator, and senior members of the Ethiopian community attended the ceremony as guests of the commander of the Israel Air Force.

We’re proud of Lt. Y. for finishing this difficult course, and proud of his groundbreaking achievement. We hope many other young people will be inspired by his actions!
