The Joint Council of Mechinot (Pre-Military Leadership Academies) this morning appointed Lt. Gen. (ret.) Shlomo Aharonishky, former inspector general of the Israel Police, as external consultant to the mechinot on field safety and security.

In this capacity, Lt.-Gen. Aharonishky will assess the procedures and regulations currently in place at the mechinot and submit recommendations for future field activities.

The Joint Council tomorrow will host a conference attended by the heads of all mechinot. The opening session of the conference, including remarks by Lt.-Gen. Aharonishky and Joint Council CEO Dani Zamir, will be open to the media.

Lt.-Gen. (ret.) Shlomo Aharonishky said, “The catastrophe that happened this past Thursday must be taken as a wake-up call. Understanding the need, and based on my long professional experience both with safety and security and with young people, I have agreed to answer the call of the Joint Council of Mechinot.”

Dani Zamir, CEO of the Joint Council of Mechinot, said, “In parallel with the activity of the inter-ministry committee of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Defense, with representatives of the Joint Council, which will begin its work in the coming days, the Joint Council decided to bring together an external team to assess the procedures in use and, following a painstaking examination, issue recommendations for mechina trips and field activities throughout Israel.”
